Keep On Saving!

Last month I posted a blog about my own experience with rediscovering how important it is to have enough. Well, I’m very encouraged to see members taking us up on the offer to start saving on a regular basis as part of our Have Enough savings campaign.

Since the campaign started in April, we’ve had over 1,750 members making qualified automated deposits to their Special Savings accounts. To some this may not seem like a big number. But, when you consider that Americans as a whole were saving at a negative rate just a few years ago (meaning, we were spending more than our take-home pay), seeing more and more members commit to saving makes my day!

If you haven’t considered participating in our Have Enough savings campaign, why not give it a try? You can start with saving as little as $25 a month to qualify for our drawing. And, hopefully it will help you create a habit of saving. But even if $25 is a lot to you, start with what you can. Saving $5 here, $5 there will add up before you know it.

I also want to give a special congratulatory shout-out to the students from Dunbar Elementary in East St. Louis. These kids saved $23,000 over the course of the school year as part of the school’s Good Citizenship Program. And, this was up from the $14,400 they saved the year before! Their accomplishment is great testament that saving is a matter of personal commitment more than anything.

Until next time.
Kathy
